Twin-Wall – The Greenhouse Polycarbonate

The most common inquiry we have on any of our plastics is people asking about polycarbonate (PC) for a greenhouse. We always end up explaining the benefits of the twin-wall PC we carry and then quoting both twin-wall and clear polycarbonate. However, twin-wall PC really is the best choice for a greenhouse and perhaps is the best material of all materials to make your greenhouse out of.

Multi_Wall_Polycarbonate_SheetingTwin-wall PC is not a solid sheet like glass. Looking down on it you can see it is made of “cells” with thin walls reinforcing the sides of the material (see picture). This provides a great deal of strength but also provides a high “R-value” or insulation value to the material – critical for greenhouses. While not transparent, twin-wall PC is translucent allowing a high-amount of light to penetrate the sheeting and get to the plants. Furthermore, perhaps the best benefit of twin-wall PC is its cost – it is less than half the cost of equivalent clear polycarbonate. It is easy to drill and work with, check out our quick fabrication guide here.

Polycarbonate-GreenhouseTwin-wall polycarbonate comes in 4′ x 8′ sheets standard, though if you require them cut to size for your application we would be glad to do that for you. If you are interested in this material please don’t hesitate to contact us today:
